Job Summary:
Srushti Conservation Foundation is seeking an experienced Ornithologist to lead the project on Central Asian Flyway – Coastal Wetland Ecosystems across state of Maharashtra and Gujarat with specific focus on Lesser Flamingo and species under Arctic Migratory Bird Initiative. The Scientist-Ornithologist will oversee field investigations, project management, data analysis, and provide guidance on species diversity and migration patterns along coastal wetlands of Gujarat. The role also includes developing training modules for various stakeholders. This is a senior-level role ideal for individuals with a Ph.D. and significant experience in coastal ecology and migratory birds.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. or M.Sc. in Ecology, Wildlife Sciences, Environmental Science, coastal Wetland Ecology, bird migration or a related discipline or a minimum of 5-7 years of experience in research, conservation, or ecological management, with a focus on migratory birds and coastal wetland ecosystems.
Skills and Expertise: Proven track record of leading field-based biodiversity studies, ecological research, and data analysis.
Demonstrated ability to develop and deliver capacity-building programs, workshops, or training sessions.
Experience in drafting policy briefs, SOPs, or conservation guidelines for government or corporate entities.
Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals, with a focus on migratory birds and coastal wetland.
Proficiency in data analysis tools (e.g., R, GIS, ecological modeling software) and excellent report-writing skills.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead field investigations of key coastal habitats and migratory birds.
Analyse complex data related to species diversity, migration patterns, and the ecological role of coastal wetlands in larger seascape.
Design and lead the development of training modules and capacity-building programs for wetland managers, focusing on coastal wetland biodiversity, conservation strategies, and long-term ecological planning.
Draft high-level policy briefs on coastal wetland and migratory bird conservation, tailored for corporate stakeholders and environmental policymakers.
Provide leadership in stakeholder engagement, including corporate partners, local communities, and government bodies, to foster collaboration and support for coastal wetland conservation initiatives.
Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and contribute to scientific discourse on coastal wetland conservation and biodiversity.
Project Management: Plan, coordinate, and manage the overall progress of the project, ensuring timely completion of research milestones. Coordinate with other partners, local communities, and stakeholders to align project objectives with conservation goals.
