Monsoon Jyoti Gogoi is a consultant at Shrusti Conservation Foundation.

He has been in the field of conservation for the last 18 years. His hometown is in Kaziranga, Assam where he grew interest in butterflies and birds from a very young age. He has expertise in macrofauna taxonomy & its biogeography, biodiversity and conservation biology, ecotourism and wildlife impact assessment.He has expertise in multi taxa biodiversity documentation projects of small mammals & birds, herpatofauna & insect documentation for many Protected Areas in NE India (Dehing Patkai rainforest, Kaziranga-Karbi Landscape, Barail range, Tripura hills etc). Other than community conservation, he is also deeply interested in learning about the culture of indigenous community.  He is also the founder of North East India Butterfly Meet (NEBM) started in 2014 and organises regular butterfly events in NE India.

Carrier

He worked for the Climate Change & Himalaya program of Bombay Natural History Society for the last 6 years in the Community Conservancy & Bengal Florican project. Before that, he worked for the Zoological Survey of India in Climate change studies on butterflies & moths for a brief period. In his Bachelor, Masters, Ph.D. days, he worked in the diverse landscape of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Mizoram & Tripura for Forest Dept. in projects related to Biodiversity documentation (largely on butterflies). He worked with different NGO (including WWF India) & Government agencies in Assam, Arunachal Pradesh including works related to EIA assessment (hydroelectric project), biodiversity documentation for Reserve Forest & Wildlife Sanctuary declaration etc.
